How Strong is Your Gear? The Carabiner Experiment
Recently, I collaborated with Hard is Easy, a YouTube channel that takes an in-depth look at climbing gear and safety.
The challenge was to bring this concept to life in a visually striking way while maintaining accuracy. I focused on realistic physics simulations and high-detail materials to create an engaging and informative introduction to the study.
For their latest episode, I created a series of 3D animations to illustrate a well-known urban legend in the climbing community, the belief that if a carabiner falls from a high altitude, it should no longer be used. My visuals set the stage for the episode, where they put this myth to the test, dropping carabiners, smashing them against the ground, and then crushing them in a machine to see if their strength is affected.
